  • Overview

A red 2024 Chevy Malibu is shown angled left.

Looking at the 2024 Chevy Malibu, it's easy to understand why this midsize sedan has spent decades as one of the top-selling vehicles in the Chevy lineup. Not only is it a popular model, but it also happens to be one of the longest-running Chevy nameplates—and with a long history comes plenty of change, transforming from the hotrod it once was to the efficient, reliable, and affordable sedan it is today.

Originally offered as a trim of the beloved Chevelle, the Malibu was destined for greatness of its own. It was available with a slew of options, including a hearty V8 that would play a major role in its muscle car branding; the Malibu also spent a good deal of time in the winner's circle at everyone's favorite race circuit, NASCAR, which undoubtedly added to its street cred. Unfortunately, this version of the Malibu would see early retirement, starting an era of adaptation that would last some fourteen years.

The Malibu's re-emergence would come near the turn of the century and involve less muscle and more practicality. The newest Chevy Malibu was now more grown-up, offering features of a sedan but still holding strong to those unique Malibu features; this resulted in a vehicle that would be well-received by many and would be a fresh start to a long and wonderful story. With each new generation, the Malibu metamorphoses further, incorporating new technology and features without losing what has always made it so great.

The 2024 Chevy Malibu looks nothing like its predecessor of the 1960s, but since nearly sixty years have passed, that's probably a good thing. Today's Malibu is sleek, savvy, and crisp on the outside, with state-of-the-art tech and creature comforts galore on the inside. From its powerful yet fuel-efficient engine to its suite of safety features, the Malibu is aging quite well.

  • Safety

A red 2024 Chevy Malibu Sport is shown from the side parked in a driveway.

The automotive industry has blossomed in so many ways, bringing in new and exciting technology to improve every aspect of the vehicles we drive. That's why you will be hard-pressed to find a new model without a suite of safety tech contributing to driver safety and confidence. The Chevy Malibu offers a host of standard safety features, doing its part to improve our time on the roads.

One of the most useful safety features found on the Chevy Malibu is a program called Teen Driver, which is geared toward inexperienced drivers who typically need the most guidance. Teen Driver allows the vehicle owner to configure select settings to encourage better driving habits. "Buckle to Drive" is one such feature, enforcing the concept of fastening your seat belt before driving away. After each drive, a report card is issued depicting the driving habits of your teen, providing updates over time on areas of improvement and concern, allowing you to know where they need further instruction.

The Chevy Safety Assist suite of driver assistance features comes standard on all trim levels, encompassing several handy safety programs. Chevy Safety Assist includes Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam High Beam Assist. With so many incredible smart features, the Malibu is covered from trunk to hood. These features help with everyday driving, improving concentration and awareness, and even providing assistance with emergency braking.

For convenience and safety, the 2024 Chevy Malibu is equipped with an HD Rear Vision Camera that improves visibility and maneuvering in reverse. All trims also come standard with Rear Park Assist, using this camera system in concert with rear sensors to simplify backing up and parking; this feature doubles as a convenience feature and a safety feature, making maneuvering in the Malibu a piece of cake.

Select trims and packages add even more safety technology features, expanding your coverage. Choose the Driver Confidence & Cruise Package to add Enhanced Emergency Braking, Automatic Parking Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control; the latter lets you predetermine your following distance per the car ahead of you and set your speed to match through self-regulation. For vehicles equipped with Traffic Sign Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control can be set to change speeds based on posted speed limits.

  • Interior

Step inside the 2024 Chevy Malibu and enjoy a modern, sleek, and comfortable interior with a host of extras. Interior trimmings range from soft cloth to luxury leather in varying colors, with select trims offering some snazzy upgrades. Enjoy heated front seats on the 1LT trim, or go for the 2LT, which includes ventilation for the front seats and the option of a heated steering wheel. Ventilated seats are fantastic to consider if you live in warmer climates, providing some summer relief; on the other hand, the heated steering wheel and heated front seats are ideal for those extra cold days.

Select trims offer Power Controlled Lumbar Support for the driver or both front seats; here, the lumbar area expands, providing support for the lower region of the back. This is a great feature for those who have long commutes or frequently take long trips. Likewise, typical positioning options for the front seats range from manual to power-adjustable and vary in how many settings can be changed.

Keyless entry is standard across the board, allowing access to the vehicle without the hassle of digging your key out of your pocket—and with lockout protection, there is no risk of locking your key fob in the vehicle. Along these lines, all trims are also equipped with a keyless start, further enhancing the user-friendliness of the 2024 Malibu. If that wasn't enough, all trims are equipped with remote start, which allows you to turn on your vehicle and its last climate settings, enabling you to pre-cool or pre-heat your vehicle prior to your keyless entry.

The Malibu can comfortably seat five, including the driver. The rear seat is flexible, with a 60/40 folding seat function that makes it much easier to convert the Malibu from a people hauler to a cargo hauler. By folding the rear seat down, you can expand your 15.7-cu.ft. trunk to accommodate larger loads of luggage, groceries, and the like.

  • Technology

Vehicles and technology go hand-in-hand, providing entertainment and information while you're on the move. The ability to stream music is now ubiquitous in the automotive industry, but some vehicles offer a bit more for their class, letting you stay better soothed and connected. The Chevy Malibu is one such vehicle, providing loads of infotainment standards that are sure to keep everyone satisfied.

The Malibu is equipped with an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen that sits above the center stack. Select trims include built-in navigation as part of the touchscreen, which uses enhanced voice control for convenience and safety. However, all trims include a version of voice command that works with compatible smart devices. Each Malibu is also equipped with Bluetooth, expanding your connectivity options.

With Bluetooth or smartphone-linked apps, you or your co-pilot can play music through the cabin's six speakers. With so many fountains for audio, your music can flow freely throughout your Malibu, especially if you've upgraded to one of the trims with the Premium Bose sound system; this system includes nine speakers, further bumping up the volume.

Unlike many other vehicles, the Chevy Malibu offers Wi-Fi hotspot capability on all trim levels. Typically, this feature is reserved for the higher-end trims, but that's not the case with the Malibu; everybody has the opportunity to transform their vehicle into a mobile hotspot. Chevy throws in even more bang for the buck with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, both of which come standard. Although Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are the norm now, the wireless aspect usually requires an upgrade—but it's standard in the Malibu!

Continuing with the wire-free theme, the 2LT trim adds a wireless charging pad; the convenience of charging your compatible device without the hassle of tangled cords is simple but significant. For those who choose one of the many other great trims, don't worry because traditional charging is still on the table.

For a little extra, each trim comes standard with OnStar Remote Access, which lets you unlock or lock your vehicle, check the levels of air in your tires and fuel in your tank, and turn your vehicle on and off, all from your phone. Perks like these prove that the 2024 Chevy Malibu is an affordable option that ensures you're never left wanting.
