Are you a Chevy fan? We have some good news if you are: the new 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is here. Even if Chevy isn’t your go-to truck brand, now might be a great time to reconsider. The Silverado 1500 is back and better than ever, with greater capability and power, not to mention a full suite of next-generation safety and convenience technology.
Chevy reimagined every inch of the Silverado for 2022, prepping it to dominate the ultra-competitive full-size pickup truck category. Features like hands-free cruise control combine with good old-fashioned torque to deliver the most advanced Silverado 1500 ever. The 2022 lineup includes nine trims, from the fleet-ready WT to the luxurious High Country.
Chevy lets buyers decide how much power they need with a four-powertrain lineup. Add to that the latest trailering technology and a suite of available driver-assist safety systems, and the 2022 Silverado 1500 is ready for everything, whether you’re headed to the job site or taking a weekend road trip with the whole family. The lineup is versatile, and the Silverado is primed to tackle even the toughest jobs.
If you’re an off-roader, you’ll find plenty of reasons to get excited about the newest Silverado. Two trims - the LT Trail Boss and the ZR2 - are loaded with trail-ready features like mud terrain tires, skid plates, and factory lifts. From basic and affordable to high-end premium luxury and everything in-between, you’re sure to find the perfect Silverado 1500 for your life’s adventures.

Numbers don’t lie, and the 2022 Silverado 1500 adds up to big capability and power, starting with four available powertrains. It used to be unheard of to put a four-cylinder under the hood of a full-size pickup, but today’s engines are smaller, lighter, and more powerful than ever before. That’s why Chevy’s 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output four-cylinder is anything but standard.
The 2.7-liter is standard on multiple trims, including the WT and the Custom, and outputs 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. If you’re not convinced that engine technology has gotten smaller and more powerful, consider this: the largest motor available on the Silverado 1500 at the time of its launch in 1998 was a Vortec V8. Even after several tweaks, the most torque it was capable of producing was 335 lb-ft, nearly 100 lb-ft less than Chevy’s current four-cylinder, and it guzzled gas as well.
Next up is a pair of 5.3-liter EcoTec V8 engines. The first is equipped with Dynamic Fuel Management, which is commonly known as stop-and-go technology. When you’re stopped at a traffic light, the engine will shut down to conserve fuel. A 5.3-liter V8 without Dynamic Fuel Management is also available. Both engines deliver 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.
Chevy’s off-road ZR2 trim receives a standard 6.2-liter EcoTec V8. If you buy a Custom Trail Boss, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, or High Country, you have the option of upgrading to this engine. The bigger V8 offers additional horsepower and torque for tough jobs and rigorous off-roading. Performance ratings come in at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Diesel fans will appreciate Chevy’s optional Duramax 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel I-6. This is the engine for you if achieving max towing capacity is important. The engine’s low torque range makes it ideal for accessing power at low speeds. The Duramax motor offers 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It’s also the most fuel-efficient, with fuel economy ratings of 23 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway. Those numbers drop just a little when you opt for four-wheel drive.
Prepare to get muddy and tackle everything nature can throw at you. The Silverado 1500 ZR2 is your ideal trail companion, with its beefy 420 horsepower V8 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and 33-inch Mud Terrain tires. You’ll get farther more capably in the ZR2 because it’s specifically designed for backcountry trails and rocky, mountainous terrain.
Among the standard features is a set of Multimatic DSSV dampers, designed to soften the extreme bumps and gyrations while also enhancing precision on uneven surfaces. The ZR2 also includes a front bumper cut specifically for off-roading, improving the approach angle to 31 degrees. Both the front and rear bumpers are heavy-duty steel, contoured for clearance, and made for durability.
A set of skid plates protect the underbody, and the dual exhaust system is concealed and out of the way. Also standard is a more sophisticated 2-speed transfer case that includes Terrain Mode. Inside, the cabin receives a trim-exclusive ZR2 interior that’s loaded with touchscreen technology. There’s a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital Driver Information Center for keeping track of key vehicle and driving data.
Chevy enhances the Silverado 1500 ZR2’s exterior with a black chrome grille that includes accent lighting, a raised hood with black inserts, wheel flares that you won’t find on any other Silverado 1500 trim, and animated LED headlights, also known as digital matrix headlights, which provide enhanced illumination and reduce glare. To make the grille pop even more, your Silverado ZR2 includes two bright red tow hooks.
Chevy also offers the LT Trail Boss for buyers looking to spend a little less. The LT Trail Boss comes with a 2-inch factory lift for extra ground clearance, an automatic locking differential, and a set of Goodyear Wrangler Mud Terrain tires. Included as standard is the Z71 Package. Among the equipment included is an off-road suspension with Rancho shocks, skid plates, and a heavy-duty air filter.
The big headline for this newest Silverado 1500 is technology. Chevy transforms the pickup’s interior with an array of digital touchscreens and displays, along with an available multi-camera system for easier trailering and safer driving. Also, Chevy Safety Assist, a suite of driver-assist safety and convenience systems, is on offer for the 2022 model year.
Outfit your Silverado 1500 with a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen mounted centrally on the dash and easily connect your smartphone with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Stream all your favorite content with a few taps, and take advantage of Google Built-In, a bundle of convenience features that includes Google Assistant, Google Maps, and Google Play. Amazon Alexa technology is also compatible with the Silverado 1500’s infotainment system.
Also available for 2022 is a 12.3-inch digital Driver Information Center. This fully-customizable vehicle data hub displays important information like fuel level, speed, and trip mileage, along with fuel economy averages and drive mode. Scroll through multiple views to find the one you want. High Country trim buyers can opt for the Premium II Package and add a 15-inch Head-Up Display that projects data at eye level on the windshield.
One of the most exciting available technology features on the 2022 Silverado 1500 is Super Cruise, a hands-free cruise control system that’s capable of automatic lane changes and can even operate while trailering. The system works on over 200,000 miles of roads and highways. Simply set the Adaptive Cruise Control system to the speed you want, and it will control acceleration and braking for you.
2022 also ushers in the latest trailering technology. With up to 14 camera views coming from 8 onboard cameras, towing your boat or RV just got a whole lot easier, from hooking up to safely changing lanes on the highway. Chevy consolidates trailer management in a unique Trailering App where you can build trailer profiles and run through a pre-departure checklist. The system also monitors trailer tire pressure and temperature.
